📌 What are anchor links – and what are they useful for?
What is an anchor link?
An anchor link (also known as a “jump link”) is a special type of link that not only leads to a page – but, once loaded, automatically scrolls to a specific section on that page.
What can anchor links be used for?
Anchor links help users land directly on the relevant content, without any detours.
For example, would you like to link directly to your benefits section in a social media post? Then open the corresponding component in the Builder and click on:
👉 “Copy direct link to this component”
The full URL – including the anchor – is automatically copied to your clipboard and can then be pasted into an email, on social media, or on your website.
What does an anchor link look like?
A regular link to your career site might look like this:
An anchor link looks like this:
This link leads to the career site and, when opened, automatically scrolls to the component with ID 20, in this case: “Benefits”.
Even if a component has not been named – or was later renamed to blank – the anchor link still works, because every component in the Builder automatically receives a unique ID.
The generated URL automatically takes your custom domain into account, if one has been set up.
Important: For the link to work as expected, the page containing the linked component must be published. Otherwise, the system can’t find the component, and no scrolling will occur.
🔗 Using Anchor Links in the Navigation
What’s new?
Until now, the multi-level navigation on the career site only supported links to Multipages or external pages.
Now, it’s also possible to use anchor links directly in the multi-level navigation – and even combine them with regular page links.
This means:
Jump marks on the same page
Subpages for detailed content
All combined in the same menu
Example
Imagine you’ve set up the following content in the Builder:
A landing page with sections for Benefits and Team
A separate Multipage titled “About Us”
A separate Multipage titled “Contact”
Your navigation could now look like this:
About Us → link to the Multipage “About Us”
Our Benefits → anchor link to the section on the start page:
…#anchor:20=BenefitsTeam → anchor link to the section on the start page:
…#anchor:22=TeamContact → link to the Multipage “Contact”
How do I add an anchor link to the navigation?
Select the relevant component (e.g. Benefits)
In the Builder, click on “Copy direct link to this component”
Go to the navigation settings of the multi-level menu and click the plus symbol to add a new menu item
Paste the full copied link (e.g.
https://career.company.com/#anchor:20=Benefits)Enter a suitable title (e.g. “Our Benefits”)
Make sure the option “Open link in new window” is deactivated – this ensures the anchor link scrolls within the same page correctly
What happens when someone clicks on an anchor link?
When users click on an anchor link in the navigation:
The page stays open (no reload)
The browser scrolls directly to the desired component
This works on both desktop and mobile devices
