If you want your online job posting to grab attention and win over the right candidates, make sure to include the following elements.
Job Title
Phrase it clearly and understandably so candidates can see at a glance what the job entails. The title should clearly identify the position without leaving applicants guessing about the role. Terms like "Software Rockstar" or "Team Improver" may sound original, but they don't immediately reveal the profile you are looking for.
The Company
What does your company actually do, and what is your mission? Explain to potential candidates in a few sentences what they can expect. Do you manufacture frying pans or build websites? Are you a global corporation or a newly founded startup?
Responsibilities
What do you need a new employee for? Outline the specific tasks the new team member will handle. "Specific" means, for example: "Conceptualizing and coordinating editorial content for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, and blogs." A less specific example would be: "Managing individual client projects." (Which projects? How are they managed?)
The Profile
What skills and knowledge should the new employee bring to successfully perform the tasks? Stay realistic and avoid setting unrealistic requirements. If you are filling a junior position, you shouldn't expect three years of professional experience.
Location
Where is the workplace located? What is the surrounding area like? Modern technology makes it easy to embed maps in job postings, showing applicants where they would be working. This allows them to visualize their potential commute, the new neighborhood, or lunch break options.
Social Media
Interactive elements are particularly important. The younger "Generation Y" values a relaxed work atmosphere and friendly interactions. It’s a plus if applicants can see who already works at the company and perhaps even recognize someone. This is made possible by integrating social media profiles into the job advertisement. A sharing function is also essential: job seekers often come across listings that don’t perfectly match their own profile but know someone for whom the job would be ideal. A simple one-click sharing option allows you to automatically reach the right candidates.
What you have to offer
What else can you offer your employees besides exciting tasks? Flexible working hours, remote work options, or leisure activities like a lunchtime game of squash? Established benefits—such as professional development opportunities, company pension schemes, or on-site childcare—can also make you an attractive employer.
"Apply Online" button
This is perhaps the most important point. Candidates view your job advertisement because they want to apply. Show them that you look forward to receiving their application by including a clearly visible "Apply Online" button.
